Here is a good
article describing the problem with relying on
Snopes.com for your "truth." The site is run by a couple who have no investigate training or background, nor do they have "inside" sources to national news or politics. They do not appear to do any serious investigating on issues. Basically, if the government or mainstream media says so, that's good enough for these "investigators." There are also persistent rumors that they are very friendly with the Obama Administration staff.

So, putting your faith in this debunking site is like going to your next door neighbor, Allen, to get "the truth" about news stories and politics.
